Monday or Sunday start planner: which week should you choose?

By Print Magic StudioX ·

Both planners hold exactly the same days. The start only decides which day sits in the first column of every month calendar and weekly spread, and so whether the weekend sits together at the end of the week or splits across both ends.

Monday start

  • Saturday and Sunday sit side by side at the end of each week, so a weekend is one block to plan.
  • The week begins with the working week, which suits planning around a job or classes.
  • It follows the international date standard, ISO 8601, and the way calendars are printed across much of Europe.

Sunday start

  • It matches how most calendars in the United States and Canada are printed, and many phone calendars there.
  • Sunday becomes the day you look at the week ahead before it begins.
  • The weekend splits, Sunday first and Saturday last.

How to decide

  1. 1Look at the calendar you already use most, on your phone or your wall. Match it, and your eye will not stumble between the two.
  2. 2If you plan your week on Sunday evening, either works; a Sunday start puts that planning session at the top of the page.
  3. 3If your weekends are one block of time (a shift pattern, a family day out), a Monday start keeps them together.

How 2027 falls

1 January 2027 is a Friday, and so is 31 December 2027; 2027 is not a leap year, so it has 365 days. In a Monday-start planner the first week of 2027 begins on Monday 28 December 2026. In a Sunday-start planner it begins on Sunday 27 December 2026. If you count weeks by ISO week numbers, week 1 of 2027 runs from Monday 4 January to Sunday 10 January, and 1 to 3 January belong to the last week of 2026.
